A mono concentrate, also called a single pigment concentrate or SPC, is one pigment or dye pre-dispersed in a carrier resin at a high loading — typically 20% to 70% depending on the pigment and carrier. Unlike a finished masterbatch, which is a formulated blend aimed at a specific shade, a mono concentrate is a raw building block you blend yourself.

They eliminate dry pigment powder from the blending area. Dry pigment is dusty, it settles on surfaces and cross-contaminates the next shade, and it needs weighing and containment. Pelletised concentrates are poured, metered and cleaned up like any other resin. Compounders often move to SPCs for this reason alone. That is exactly what they are for. You calculate the pigment ratios for the target shade and dose the corresponding concentrates at the machine or in a pre-blend.
