PET Masterbatches

Because a polyolefin carrier will not dissolve into PET. PE and PP are immiscible with polyester, so a PE-carried masterbatch dosed into PET stays as a separate phase — which shows up as haze in a clear bottle, as weak points in a preform wall, and as filter blockage in fibre spinning. A PET-carrier masterbatch melts into the same phase as your resin and behaves as part of it.

It can if it is not formulated and dried correctly. PET is hydrolysis-sensitive at melt temperature, so any moisture carried in by the masterbatch causes chain scission and an IV drop, which you see as thin walls, poor stretch ratio and bottle failure. PET-carrier masterbatches must be dried on the same discipline as your resin. Tell us your drying setup and we will advise on handling.

For transparent PET, a bluing agent or optical brightener corrects the slight yellow cast of the resin without adding opacity — a very small addition that makes the bottle read as cleaner. For opaque white PET, such as dairy bottles that must block light, you need genuine opacity from a titanium dioxide system; see White Masterbatches. The two are completely different formulations.

Yes. Send the actual bottle or preform rather than a colour chip — PET colour reads very differently at preform wall thickness than at blown bottle wall thickness, so we need to know which stage the target refers to. Yes, with the usual recyclate caveat: rPET carries its own colour cast and IV variation, so a match made on one lot will not automatically hold on another.
